Reforestation in Belgium
With our partner in Belgium, Sylva Nova, we make our rural territories resilient again! Support sustainable agriculture and forestry in Belgium.

Climate smart planting projects
Thousands of hectares of forests are threatened by climate change, pests, and diseases in Belgium.
That is why we decided to give the forest ecosystem a hand in our own country as well.
We have two project types:
Additional forest: We are planting new forests on neglected land or agricultural land.
Non-additional forest: We restore existing forests and make them more resilient. In Belgium and Europe in general, we do not always have new land available for forests. This is caused by the fragmentation of ownership and because of the competition for land.
We never plant after voluntary harvesting (clear-cutting). There is only restoration after a storm, pests, diseases, forest fires,…
Our partner in Belgium is Sylva Nova. They have the ambition to make our rural territories resilient again. The projects respond to different emergencies: global warming, loss of biodiversity, bad water and soil quality, and so on. We work upstream with farmers and foresters in organizing their planting project.
The projects exist out of planting the trees but also include monitoring visits to ensure that the plants are recovering well. With the help of a “management plan”, there is more involvement by the forester. This way, we are sure that they are participating in a serious project that is treated in a sustainable and respectful way.
Protecting and restoring our ecosystems should be on top of all of our lists. Having the proper knowledge is crucial to making a long-term change. From location to timing, to care, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye, for a tree to make maximum impact.
Our projects in Belgium always provide added value to the forest in terms of the environment but also help the other functions of the forests, such as the social functions, the CO2-sequestration, and the landscape.
The tree species that we plant in Belgium are diversified tree species that are adapted to the local conditions. We select the species based on the soil, climate conditions, global warming, etc. This ensures that we make a maximum impact.
A focus on biodiversity is very important because our main challenges today are climate change and the loss of biodiversity. We speak a lot about CO2, but the loss of biodiversity is also a very important problem to tackle. By reforesting our European continent, we are working on both sides: climate change and biodiversity.
After an attack by the bark beetle, the forest will be restored but not necessarily in the same way as before. A monoculture of spruce is not very interesting in terms of biodiversity. We, then, support the owner to restore the forest with different species to create a more diversified forest that gives added value to the biodiversity.

Sustainable Development
At Go Forest, we don’t just plant trees. We engage in much more. We do so by using the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which serve as a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and in the future. Depending on the region and the project, you’ll be supporting different SDGs. Our project in Belgium focuses on the following SDGs:
Let's plan(t) the future together.
Forests are an important player in the fight against global warming. A large portion of all the CO2 in the atmosphere is absorbed by the forests and stored in the form of organic carbon in the wood and soil.
Unfortunately, deforestation and land use change also contribute 17% to the greenhouse effect. One of the most important and simplest ways to counteract global warming is to create greater biodiversity by planting forests. This is exactly what we at Go Forest, in partnership with various companies, are doing.

We don’t only plant your trees; we take care of them as well.
